This is what the new Port Olímpic of Barcelona will look like

The refurbishment of the Moll de Gregal will be completed in the summer of 2024, coinciding with the celebration of the America’s Cup in Barcelona.

The Moll de Mestral at Barcelona’s Olympic Port is about to undergo a transformation. The reform, which has already begun and will be launched at the end of summer 2024, aims to give a boost to the blue economy: favoring training, outreach and recreational water sports activities, as well as attracting entrepreneurs and organizations that promote innovation, research and the circular economy in the field of blue sectors.

The plan includes the construction of new accesses to the Vila Olímpica neighborhood and the beach, as well as the creation of a public space especially designed for walking, recreation and sports. Thus, the pier will favor the walk to the coastline through a direct connection to the Nova Icària beach and three vertical axes equipped with stairs and elevators.

In addition, there will be sitting areas and lookouts to sit and enjoy the views.

The buildings will be inspired by modern architecture, with light and glass as the main elements, in order to facilitate visual communication with the sea and port activity. In addition, the presence of green will be reinforced and renewable energies and sustainable waste management will be promoted.

A gastronomic balcony

In addition, at the Moll de Gregal in Barcelona’s Olympic Port, the Gastronomic Balcony, a restaurant project with a surface area of more than 24,000 m2 that will bring together eleven restaurants and three gourmet spaces, will open at the end of summer 2024. The proposal, which has an investment of 15.9 million euros, plans to turn the Moll de Gregal into one of the most unique gastronomic areas of the city, as well as a connection point between citizens and the sea.

This new restaurant model is committed to healthy and sustainable food, therefore, the choice of future restaurateurs will be made through a contest that will take into account issues such as quality and style of cuisine and product, design proposals and ambience of the premises, as well as the sustainability measures introduced, among others. In addition, with the aim of reaching a wide and diverse local public, the fourteen proposals will range from market cuisine to the culinary avant-garde.

The Barcelona City Council maintains that one of the strategic axes of the transformation of the Moll de Gregal is sustainability. In line with this commitment, four large photovoltaic pergolas will be installed to enhance the energy savings of the future facilities which, in addition to generating energy from renewable sources, will provide shaded areas that will promote the well-being of citizens.
