<p><span style="font-family: graphik-regular;">The luxury sector has already begun to enter this universe and, according to an analysis by Morgan Stanley, in 2030 virtual luxury goods will move about 50 billion dollars.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: graphik-regular;">The high-end is entering fully into virtual worlds and web 3.0, taking digitization to a new dimension in combination with the physical experience.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: graphik-regular;">Círculo Fortuny, the most representative association of the high-end in Spain, organized on February 7 its emblematic &#8216;Fortuny Day&#8217; precisely around these new channels that are bursting with force and are creating new ways to reach the consumer, especially the Y and Z generations.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-family: graphik-regular;">Both took a leap into our universe and the journey began. Pinedo defined the metaverse concept as a &#8220;metaphor to try to explain the new evolution of the Internet&#8221;.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: graphik-regular;">It should be noted that there is no single platform for the metaverse, there are different ones. Although Pinedo recalls that there used to be different &#8216;internet&#8217; until he unified the protocol.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: graphik-regular;">The metaverse on each platform operates with different engines, rules, interfaces and economic models. And, in general, there is no interconnectivity or interoperability between them. That is, it is not possible to move avatars or objects from one to another. Now, &#8220;everything we are contemplating right now is simply a &#8216;proof of concept&#8217;.&#8221;</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: graphik-regular;">To try to make us better understand the metaverse, ISDI&#8217;s CEO commented on the keys to it, which would be:</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: graphik-regular;">Spatial and sensory user interface. Users enter the virtual universe through an avatar that they can customize. In addition, they use glasses or screens to move and immerse themselves in the new space.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: graphik-regular;">Immersive and open environments. Developers translate reality into the virtual environment, creating new worlds in which things exist and happen.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: graphik-regular;">Real interactivity. Each platform sets its own rules. For example, if users can fly, how they can relate to each other and to their environment&#8230;.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: graphik-regular;">Native virtual economies. New economic environments into which consumers enter are appearing.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: graphik-regular;">After this introduction, Esteban Ordano, co-founder of Decentraland, and Alexander Wit, owner of Lladró, discussed the different metaverses and how we can anticipate what is to come.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: graphik-regular;">Ordano commented that one of the things that is working the most is the &#8216;phygital&#8217; item. What does it consist of? You have a NFT in the metaverse that is a digital dress and whenever you want you can exchange it for a physical version.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: graphik-regular;">He also explained that, although there are different virtual worlds, if you have an NFT you can keep it even if the world in which you acquired it disappears as long as the blockchain remains functional. &#8220;You have the assurance that you&#8217;re not going to lose your digital item.&#8221;</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: graphik-regular;">Next, Nelly Mensah, head of Web 3 and Metaverse worldwide for the LVMH group explained NFTs and web 3.0 in the high-end industry.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: graphik-regular;">&#8220;Our brands have a unique opportunity to infuse their DNA into the Web 3 space,&#8221; he noted. He went on to explain that in the short term there will be a shift towards more practical uses.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: graphik-regular;">In the long run, he points out that it will impact both individuals and organizations: &#8220;It will change how luxury brands interact with their customers. The expert commented that young people want to co-create, as we see them doing with Nike designing their own sneakers; in addition, new ways of buying will appear and organizations will have to get used to interacting with their consumers.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: graphik-regular;">Web 3 will also have an impact on talent within companies, which will be looking for new profiles. In addition, companies will have to evolve their internal processes and infrastructure.</span></p>

The Digital Marketing Director believes that the metaverse will provide an added value to the customer experience in the purchasing process.</span></p>

However, he warns that it is essential to be clear about who you are going to sell to and what you are going to sell.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: graphik-regular;">Regarding artists, Huerta considers that we are at a time when &#8220;they can dream&#8221;, since &#8220;technology is at the service of art&#8221;. <p><span style="font-family: graphik-regular;">Air catering, on the other hand, was driven by strong growth in the number of passengers traveling by air. 220 million in 2022, 76% more than in the previous year.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: graphik-regular;">After growing by 67%, high-end catering reached 200 million euros, in a context of a strong increase in demand for events and celebrations thanks to the lifting of restrictions following the pandemic.</span></p>

Its main components? It advocates a communication effort (on its websites, headquarters, networks&#8230;) of its members&#8217; commitments, energy improvements in its facilities and energy use practices, sustainable food practices, collective and sustainable transportation, circular economy in structures and carpets, accessibility, collaborations with NGOs and volunteers (taking advantage of the massive attendance that fairs represent), hiring criteria applying environmental and social criteria, and finally to reduce its carbon footprint. In fact, they have also joined the NetZeroCarbonEvents initiative.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: graphik-regular;"><em>NetZero Carbon Events</em>, the most international initiative</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: graphik-regular;">This initiative, supported by more than 400 organizations in 55 countries, aims to make all events carbon-free by 2050. By the end of 2023, they will publish the roadmap for 2050, with an intermediate target of 50% by 2030. It is an initiative that applies to the entire value chain, with the idea of breaking down efforts by type of stakeholder. It has five main fields of action, including organizing events in an energy-efficient and green way or redesigning events to use materials.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: graphik-regular;"><em>IdeMice</em> launches a decalogue for sustainable incentives</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: graphik-regular;">While this statement of intent from the incentive agency association emphasizes measures at the destination, it also speaks of commitment at home. It makes recommendations at the level of hiring more sustainable means of transportation (a key component of incentives), combating single-use packaging, hiring sustainable accommodations, more sustainable catering, reuse of materials, workers&#8217; rights, and a key value provided by incentive travel: generating positive impact on the environment by encouraging participants to interact with local communities, with respect for local heritage. This local impact, together with the awareness of participants, is a key value of the incentives.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: graphik-regular;"><em>ADEAZA</em> launches its best practices guide</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: graphik-regular;">ADEAZA highlights in its guide the importance of client relationships and the values that should govern these relationships: professionalism, integrity, excellence&#8230; The manual advises clients on variables to be taken into account when hiring a company (reputation, solvency, compliance with regulations&#8230;), on the difference between the client&#8217;s needs and the needs of the staffing company or on the specifications when drawing up a budget.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: graphik-regular;">France defines a sector commitment</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: graphik-regular;"><em>UNIMEV</em>, the alliance of associations in the events sector in France, brings together 400 companies from the entire value chain of the events sector. In collaboration with the French government, it has defined an industry commitment focused on avoiding waste. The Decalogue details a series of commitments and circular design methods to be applied. An example of truly collective commitment, but also of prioritization of a few causes.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-family: graphik-regular;">Which is good news by half: it is a year-on-year figure that compares prices in March last year, when electricity, gas and oil prices soared out of control. This readjustment of bullish behavior, which gives us some breathing space, does not mean that prices are going down, only that they are going up less. Given this reality, the euphoria over the impressive return to presence after the pandemic should not hide the fact that inflation is being a serious drag on the return to normality in the events sector, as we saw in our recent 2023 Market Study.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-family: graphik-regular;">This inflation has been applied especially in the hotel world, one of the few segments of our sector that applies the concept of yield (why?), and has raised prices by 17% according to the INE, with even an average rate 15% higher than 2019.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: graphik-regular;">We are a sector where elements whose price has risen a lot weigh heavily: food raw materials, energy and logistics, some raw materials such as metal&#8230; and also talent, which today costs more. But while prices have risen, only 48% of suppliers say they have not been able to pass on inflation in their prices, and have therefore had to lower their margins, and agencies point to the same difficulty in passing on inflation in the face of clients who struggle mightily to contain inflation. This difficulty in passing on costs, the lack of what the Americans call &#8220;pricing power&#8221; and which indicates the strength of a company or a sector, is a problem at events. It indicates a low appreciation by customers of the specific value of this or that provider&#8217;s or agency&#8217;s services, a market that is too fragmented, or simply a difficulty in differentiating itself.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: graphik-regular;">In any case, the desire to control or limit this inflation is not a whim, but something that seems necessary for organizers to be able to maintain their activity; according to a study by Knowland (in the USA), prices are the main danger for the full return to events (according to more than 46% of organizers).</span></p>

<p><span style="font-family: graphik-regular;">Behind these lower margins is the price war. After a time of clear over-demand in 2022, suppliers have adjusted their capabilities, have recruited (although as we will see, this has been and remains difficult), can service demand and therefore have less power than at the crazy turn of events in 2022. Result: the price war is greater than before the pandemic for 45% of suppliers, affecting their margins. How do they adapt? As can be seen in the table, they take care of their financial cushion, strengthen their risk management in an uncertain environment, ask for more prepayment and check their financial solvency more (all these different strategies gain weight according to 30-40% of the suppliers). In summary: a year of strong activity, but eroded margins, and increased caution on the part of the various players.</span></p>

This is a delicate issue in the relationship with agencies, which often see this type of initiative as unfair competition or a measure that affects their margins. Certain spaces are increasingly equipped with audiovisual equipment, hotels offer a teambuilding menu, and so on and so forth.  </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: graphik-regular;">55% of suppliers report offering a more complete service, integrating the services of other complementary suppliers. It is a way to widen margins, to allow events with less set-up time (in the case of spaces equipped with audiovisuals), to facilitate the organization&#8230; but probably a not very positive evolution for the freedom of the market and for the careful and tailor-made character of each event.  </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: graphik-regular;">The freedom to work with whomever you want seems an important value: in the complex exercise of creating experiences or scenographies, the relationships between agencies and their trusted suppliers is something important.</span></p>
